Florida Hospital Celebration Health Expands Cardiology Services

Residents and visitors who need emergency cardiac care in the Celebration area now have more options close to home.

Florida Hospital Celebration Health recently launched vascular surgery and interventional cardiology services with two newly expanded and remodeled cardiac catheterization labs, where physicians can use a thin, flexible tube to check and repair the blood flow in coronary arteries.

That means patients suffering from conditions such as heart attacks, congenital heart defects, and disease affecting arteries or veins can be evaluated, diagnosed and treated in a single location. The catheterization labs started offering pacemaker services this week.

“There is immense growth in Central Florida, and with that comes the important need to provide advanced, life-saving cardiac care close to our patients’ homes,” said Dr. Duane Davis, director of the Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute. “Our cardiac network will continue to grow along with our community.”

Osceola County’s population is expected to skyrocket over the next decade. The University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research estimated 288,200 residents in Osceola in 2015, and that’s projected to climb nearly 24 percent to 358,700 by 2030. Surrounding Orange and Polk counties are also projected to experience notable growth.

The Celebration expansion is the latest of Florida Hospital’s growing cardiac services — a diagnostic cath lab opened at the new Florida Hospital Apopka in December, and before that, a cath lab opened at Florida Hospital Kissimmee. These join the established services at Florida Hospital Orlando, Altamonte, Winter Park and East Orlando campuses.

The Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute is one of the largest and best-regarded cardiac facilities in the country, and Florida Hospital is the only healthcare provider in Central Florida that performs heart transplants. Every year, the Cardiovascular Institute serves more than 70,000 cardiac patients, including 25,000 who seek emergency care and 2,000 who require cardiac surgery.

Florida Hospital Plans New Standalone EDs

Florida Hospital is launching a major expansion of services on the east side of Orlando, with standalone emergency departments planned for Waterford Lakes and Oviedo.

 

The Waterford Lakes emergency department will be located at Colonial Drive and Lake Pickett Road. Florida Hospital yesterday closed on the purchase of the 5-acre parcel where the emergency department will stand.

 

“We want to be where you live, with a complete network that’s easy to access. This will lead to steady growth in the coming years,” said Daryl Tol, president, and CEO of Florida Hospital and the Central Florida Division of Adventist Health System. “Our new centers in Oviedo and Waterford Lakes are just the next step in our aggressive multi-year plan.”

 

Both emergency departments are expected to include 24 beds, including observation beds allowing patients to stay close to home should they need advanced care not requiring admission to a hospital. Services offered will include: Diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, X-ray), a full-service laboratory and pharmacy services. The comprehensive clinical team at the new EDs will include board-certified emergency physicians and emergency nurses trained in both adult and pediatric emergency medicine.

 

In Oviedo, the emergency department is slated to be built on Red Bug Lake Road near Oviedo Mall Boulevard, on a parcel already owned by Florida Hospital. The parcel also houses a Centra Care urgent-care office, which will remain on the site.

 

Final design decisions will be made after input from city government and residents.

 

Groundbreaking for the Waterford Lakes location is expected in June of this year, with the ED opening in the second quarter of 2019. Groundbreaking in Oviedo is set for this October, with the opening planned for the third quarter of 2019.

Florida Hospital Opens First NICU in Seminole County

Florida Hospital Altamonte is providing an important new service in Seminole County that will allow its tiniest and most vulnerable patients to get care closer to home.

On Tuesday, the hospital debuted its new Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which features 10 private rooms, and meets a growing need for critical care in Central Florida.

The rooms are equipped with Draeger’s Babyleo TN500 IncuWarmer, which uses groundbreaking technology to regulate body heat, maximize efficiency for clinical staff and integrate families in their babies’ care. The Babyleo also features low sound and light levels to create a womblike atmosphere and has advanced safeguards against infection. Its “kangaroo mode” allows parents to more closely interact with their baby.

The new NICU is part of Florida Hospital’s neonatal network of care that includes 150 beds throughout Central Florida (including units at Orlando, Winter Park, Celebration, Daytona Beach, and now Altamonte Springs). The NICU network allows patients to receive the highest level of care and includes a team of specialists who provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services, from minimally invasive surgery to highly complex cases, and innovative care and procedures.

Florida Hospital Earns Prestigious Award

Florida Hospital for Children has been named a Top Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group.  This award is considered one of the most prestigious honors a hospital can receive.  Florida Hospital for Children is one of only ten children’s hospitals in the entire U.S. to earn this recognition.

In addition, Florida Hospital Celebration Health has been named a Top Teaching Hospital, one of only 36 in the country to get this distinction.

Performance across many areas of care is reviewed in establishing the qualifications for the award, including: infection rates, high-risk procedure outcomes, and the prevention of medical errors.  Hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey to be considered.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent hospital watchdog organization that reviews patient safety metrics in the industry.  Back in October, the organization gave every Florida Hospital campus in Central Florida an “A” grade for their commitment to patient care.
