Florida Hospital Receives 2017 Gallup Great Workplace Award

Adventist Health System (AHS), which includes Florida Hospital,  has been named a 2017 Gallup Great Workplace Award winner. This marks the seventh consecutive year that AHS has received the award, which recognizes organizations for their extraordinary ability to create engaged workplace cultures.

According to Gallup, organizations with highly engaged workforces can grow at a rate that is 4.3 times greater than their competitors. Gallup’s research links employee engagement to various performance outcomes, finding that companies in the top quartile have higher productivity, fewer safety and quality incidents, lower absenteeism and lower turnover.

To be considered for the award, organizations must administer an employee engagement survey to at least 50 respondents representing a census of the organization, receive a high, qualifying response rate and earn a qualifying score on Gallup’s Q12 employee engagement survey. A panel of Gallup workplace experts evaluates applicants and assesses them against criteria established by a comprehensive workplace study.

“The world’s top-performing organizations help lead the global economy by engaging their workforces,” said Jim Harter, Ph.D., Gallup’s chief scientist of workplace management and well-being. “Gallup’s Great Workplace Award winners understand the importance of employee engagement by making it a vital part of their organization and using it as a driving force to create real business outcomes.”

Winter Park Hospital Beacon Award

Florida Hospital Unit Receives Highest Beacon Award

The PCU (SE1) at Winter Park Memorial Hospital has earned the prestigious Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.  Specifically, they were awarded the gold level Beacon, the highest level of designation.

The Beacon Award is presented to hospital units that demonstrate exceptional care based on clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement.  Besides the well-deserved recognition the PCU team deserves, nurse leaders say that going through the application process also helps their team’s outcomes.  It ultimately means better care for our patients.

Winter Park’s SE1 is the second unit at that campus to win gold.

Winter Park Nicholson Pavilion

Winter Park Memorial Hospital announces new patient care pavilion

Winter Park Memorial Hospital announced its vision for the new $85 million Nicholson Pavilion, which will add up to 80 all-private rooms, as well as a new patient lobby.

“Winter Park Memorial Hospital was founded more than 60 years ago with the goal of creating a world-class hospital to serve the community’s health needs right here at home,” said hospital administrator Jennifer Wandersleben. “We’re thrilled to be a part of this latest chapter, which is the largest investment in the hospital’s history and one of the largest in Winter Park.”

The five-story, Mediterranean-inspired pavilion will be named for philanthropists Tony and Sonja Nicholson. Construction is set to begin this winter, with a completion date of 2018.

Local and federal officials joined the Nicholsons and Winter Park Memorial Hospital officials for the historic day.

“We feel blessed to be able to share with the Winter Park community in this way. We are excited for the impact this patient pavilion will have,” said Tony Nicholson. “Remember, this is where life begins and where we come to get the best medical attention during our lifetimes. Our best wishes to Winter Park Memorial Hospital’s great doctors, nurses and administrators.”

The Nicholson Pavilion expansion will allow the hospital to convert the majority of its existing rooms into private patient rooms, today’s gold standard in care. The new pavilion space will include private beds for orthopaedic care as well as other surgical and medical services. At full buildout, it will offer 160 beautiful private rooms and bathrooms.

When Winter Park Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1955, about 12,000 people called Winter Park home. The first ambulance was a hearse run by a funeral home. Ninety doctors treated patients at the 58-bed facility.

Today, nearly 30,000 residents live in Winter Park, and thousands more in surrounding areas. Winter Park Memorial Hospital is the largest employer in the city, with almost 1,400 employees. The hospital performs nearly 10,000 surgeries, more than 75,000 outpatient visits and more than 16,000 inpatient admissions per year.

“As an almost 50-year resident of Winter Park and a patient at times of this hospital, I know this new pavilion will bring to Winter Park a facility that will meet the needs of our community for a long time to come,” said Tom Yochum, the Winter Park Memorial Hospital Foundation board president.

The state-of-the-art community hospital is home to destination services such as the Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place, Florida Hospital for Women at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, the Cancer Institute, Orthopaedic Institute, and the Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgical Center.
